Core Laboratories, Inc. – Corpus Christi, TX; Sept. 1984 - June 1985

Provided analysis and reporting on petroleum well geologic core samplings for this reservoir engineering firm. Testing included studies in permeability, porosity, material make up and grain size analysis.


Construction Manager

Gemcraft Homes – San Antonio, TX; June 1985 – Oct. 1987

Attended Gemcraft’s School of Construction Management. Began as a customer service manager and was quickly promoted to Superintendent then Construction Manager. Personally supervised the construction of as many as 30 homes under construction at one time while also being responsible for the production of other superintendents and warranty service employees. Supervised the construction of more than 200 homes and a Model home park during my tenure. Recognized for consistently meeting deadlines, closing homes under budget, and achieving extremely quick build times. Built a single home from vacant lot to customer occupancy in 14 days, and built a three home model park from start to finish in 45 days.


Construction Manager

Monarch Homes – San Antonio, TX; Oct. 1987- Sept. 1988

Managed construction in several locations simultaneously throughout the city. Supervised the construction of three model home parks. Company was under financial distress at the time of departure.


Construction Manager

L.J. Hooker Homes – Atlanta, GA; Sept. 1988 – July 1990

Managed construction in several subdivisions for this, national, “first time buyer”, production builder. Company liquidated in 1990.


Vice President of Operations

Highland Homes Atlanta Division – Atlanta, GA July 1990 – Aug. 2000

Began as Builder in 1990 and progressed to Area Manager then Vice President of Operations. Managed all purchasing, estimating and budgeting, warranty and job start processes for the Atlanta Division. I also managed Design Center and Selections Coordinator staff, architecture and CAD staff and other back office personnel and infrastructure. Additionally implemented and manage profit and margin tracking systems including Area Figure, Price File, Pipeline, and Closed Job Reconciliation reports. I was the Atlanta Divisions primary trouble shooter, risk manager and safety officer.


Vice President

Monte Hewett Homes – Atlanta, GA; Aug. 2000 – March 2002

Mr. Hewett (formerly Division President of Highland Homes) acquired the Atlanta division of Highland Homes and renamed the company Monte Hewett Homes. My position and initial responsibilities remained the same as with Highland Homes. Additionally, I managed the construction activity on special projects such as Town homes, model homes and prototype homes. As the company evolved we established a niche identity for building semi-custom homes on a production basis from mid to high end price points including both single family and multi-family product. During my tenure I also developed a system to establish similar expectations between clients, contractors and vendors by writing the company’s limited warranty, homeowners’ manual, and closing information package and initiated a series of meetings between our staff and  our clients throughout the building process.


President, Florida Division

Monte Hewett Homes of Florida – Atlanta, GA; Dec. 2001 to Dec. 2006

I managed the entire startup of Monte Hewett Homes of Florida, maintained Atlanta responsibilities and was the Licensee and state certified Primary Qualifying Agent for the Florida company. I relocated to Florida full time in March of 2002, managed all aspects of the company, initiated the same systems I developed for the Atlanta based company. I developed a Builder Program with in St. Joe Communities and developed a system to market, bid and build client owned custom homes. At my departure, Monte Hewett Homes of Florida had built or contracted more than 20 high end custom homes in master planned communities.



WaterCrest Homes LLC – Santa Rosa Beach, FL; January 2007

After working for Mr. Hewett for more than 16 years and acquiring more than 20 years of knowledge in virtually every aspect of residential single and multifamily construction, I  decided to build my own company. My primary goals are to meet my client’s expectations, utilize my experience to provide  the highest possible level of service and quality , and to make the building process a positive experience.

Hi, I’m James Emerick.  Alicia, a nurse and my wife of more than 30 years, and I met while I was building her first home in San Antonio.  We are the proud parents of two Baylor University graduates.  Justin majored in International Studies with a focus on the Middle East and is now an officer in the United States Army.   Jacob is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Theoretical Physics at the University of Amsterdam.   As for me, well my passion is building; I’ve been good at it for a long time, love it and can’t imagine doing anything else.

Since 1985, I have built hundreds of homes in Texas, Georgia and Florida.  I have met the expectations of more than 40 satisfied clients in the distinctive developments of WaterSound, WaterSound West Beach, WaterColor, Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach, The Retreat, SeaCrest Beach and the Villages of White Cliffs.
